Welcome to the School of Physics
Vincent Toal
Head of School
The School of Physics at DIT is highly active in research areas such as nanotechnology & materials science, optics and medical physics and has a strong input into the DIT research facility at FOCAS. The School has very successfully pioneered Problem Based Learning (PBL - see http://physics.dit.ie/programmes/pbl.html) as a delivery method for undergraduate ordinary and honours Physics degrees.
The School offers primary (BSc Ordinary and Honours), masters (MPhil) and doctorate (PhD) degree qualifications and was the first in Ireland to offer a nanotechnology/nanoscience undergraduate honours degree. These Dublin-based DIT degrees have been designed with industry input and emphasise the applied nature of the field and may include industrial placement or opportunities for travel abroad.
