Accepting your place and paying your International Fees

The acceptance of the offer of your place on a programme at DIT is only deemed valid upon receipt of payment of the annual tuition fee for the academic year through the payment instructions given on the programme offer letter issued to you through the International Student Office. The international fee must be paid in full in order to secure your acceptance of your place.

In the event where an applicant has applied for and is offered a place on more than one programme at DIT, the applicant must accept a place on only one of the programmes offered. If the applicant has already accepted an offer and is made a subsequent offer which he/she wishes to accept on another programme at DIT then he/she should contact the International Student Office immediately at international@dit.ie

The procedure for the payment of fees will be outlined on your offer letter and the fee payment may be requested through one of three methods:

  1. Payment through the Electronic Transfer to the fee
  2. Payment through the International Student Payment Service (ISPS).
This payment procedure is only available to applicants from a select number of countries.

Payment Procedure through ISPS

The Dublin Institute of Technology has installed a fee payment procedure for international students through an external financial service called International Student Payment Service (ISPS). The payment of the tuition fee should be paid at the ISPS assigned bank in your home country in accordance with the instructions provided on the website below. The benefits to our international students of using ISPS as the method of payment for the DIT tuition fees are to:

  • a) Save on international bank transfer fees.
  • b) Increase the visa processing time as DIT will receive the payment much faster than if the payment is made through a regular bank transfer.

In order to make the tuition fee payment the student should take the following steps:

    1) Visit the following website www.dit.studentfees.ie

    2) Complete the Payment Application Form which is located on the homepage.

    3) Please ensure that all the mandatory fields are completed correctly.

    4) Print the bank account confirmation which will be returned electronically to the student when the completed Payment Application Form is submitted.

    5) Transfer the DIT tuition fee to the confirmed bank account in the assigned bank in your home country which will be printed on the bank account confirmation.

    6) When the bank transfer has been made the student must scan the bank payment receipt to confirm@studentfees.com

    7) ISPS will email the student and DIT’s International Student Office to confirm receipt of payment.

The tuition fee should be paid within two weeks of receiving this offer to secure your place at DIT and to ensure that your student visa will be issued on time from the Irish Embassy. Please note that the tuition fee must be paid in full in one transaction. There is no fee instalment option available. A student visa will not be secured until receipt of payment in full is provided to the visa office.

The International Student Office will acknowledge in a letter the student’s acceptance of the offered programme and the student’s receipt of payment of the annual tuition fee. This letter will be forwarded to the student via email. The student will require this acknowledgement letter from DIT’s International Student Office in order to apply for his/her student visa. However, please note that the Irish government now require that all overseas students provide a copy of the bank payment receipt with their application for a student visa. The bank payment receipt will have been forwarded to the student by email from ISPS.

How to Determine your Fee Status

A student who is classified as being international is required to pay the international or non EU fee. The criteria used to determine if an applicant is classified as international are:

    a) The applicant does not hold EU/EEA nationality.

    AND

    b) The applicant has not been ordinarily resident in an EU/EEA member state for at least three of the five years proceeding entry to DIT. Please note that the period that non-EU/EEA students are resident in Ireland on a study visa (stamp 2 or stamp 2A) or a person on stamp 3 does not contribute towards this residency requirement.

A non EU/EEA student who has been ordinarily resident in Ireland for 3 of the past 5 years may be eligible for EU or Free Fees but this is dependent on a number of factors which are outlined in DIT’s International Fees Policy. The current edition of this policy is available to read on our website here

Please contact DIT’s International Student Office if you are unsure of your fee status international@dit.ie

    Student Visa Regulations

International non-EU students are permitted to attend recognised full time programmes at DIT on the condition that the students and the Institute comply with specific regulations in relation to the issuing of student visas to such students by the Department of Justice, Equality, and Law Reform. The Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) has produced a document for international students in 2008 entitled Student Visa Guidelines.

The Student Visa Guidelines may be found at the following weblink:
    http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/WP07000018

It is important that all international students on study visas in Ireland are aware of the following student visa regulations:

  • All international non-EU students must register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) if they are staying in Ireland for more than 90 days. There is a charge of €150.
  • All students on student visas must demonstrate a programme attendance rate of 80% or higher. It is the student’s responsibility to attend classes and to issue a medical certificate if absent due to illness. Students are also required to notify their programme tutor if they will be away from classes. The International Student Office is obliged to notify the GNIB of any student who is not meeting the required programme attendance rate of 80%. Such students are at risk of losing their student visa.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that his/her student visa is renewed on time. Registered students at DIT will require a visa renewal letter from DIT’s International Student Office to support their application for a visa renewal. Applications for visa renewal are made through the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS).
  • Students on student visas are entitled to participate in employment for a maximum of 20 hours per week during term time and up to 40 hours per week during holiday time. However, all students committed to study during a holiday period, such as those postgraduate students who are completing their thesis during the summer holiday, are only permitted to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week.
